Google Search Console
How one Google authorization gives Kwern Search Console and Analytics, what it reads from each, and what a ranking drop means.
What you need
A Google account that owns the Search Console property for your site, and a product whose Site surface points at that site.
Connect it
Open Settings · Add an account and press Connect Google. Google asks for two read-only scopes at once: Search Console and Analytics. Kwern keeps the refresh token, so the grant survives the hour-long access token without sending you back to Google every morning.
Then open the product's Apps page and bind what you want read. One Google account gives two connectors, bound independently:
- the Search Console site
- the GA4 property, documented in Google Analytics 4
Binding one does not oblige you to bind the other.
What Kwern reads
A snapshot a day for the site:
- clicks, impressions, CTR and average position for the window
- the queries and the pages behind them, head first, twenty-five rows of each
- the drops: the queries with at least fifty impressions that fell three places or more since the window before, with what they used to rank and what they lost
Clicks, impressions, CTR and position accumulate as the connector's series. A total over a range sums the clicks and the impressions and takes CTR and position as the mean of the days weighted by impressions, which is the only honest way to average a rate.
What Kwern can change
Nothing. The scope is webmasters.readonly: submitting a sitemap, adding a property or deleting one all come back refused from Google, whatever an agent decides.
The agents that use it
The SEO agent reads it every week, against what its own crawl found. That comparison is the difference between a page that is broken and a page that is simply losing. The agent does not need the connection to run — it needs a repository for that — but its audit is thin without it.
When it breaks
Revoking Kwern in your Google account revokes Search Console and Analytics together, and marks the account as needing attention. Google Ads is a separate grant and keeps working.
RevenueCat
How to authorize RevenueCat, which revenue metrics Kwern keeps day by day, and why the grant it holds can never write.
Stripe
How to install Kwern's Stripe App, which revenue figures Kwern keeps day by day, why the only thing it writes is a promotion code for an influencer offer, and how affiliate commissions are worked out from those codes.
